Gramma Frans Fixins

Gramma Fran’s Fixins is a primitive/whimsical style website selling all soy candles as well as many other country type products.  I counted 4 different style jars in their regular container style candles but they also carry specialty candles they call Americana, Life Candles & Old Thyme Candles.  For melt lovers out there... they also sell a variety of melts in many shapes and sizes.

I counted 51 fragrances on their scent list which is fairly decent with many of their scents bakery oriented.  Yummy!!  Gramma Fran’s Fixins specializes in cinnamon bun candles which are so realistic looking and one I wanted to try for this review.  I also decided to try their Coffee Cake scent, another fragrance that sounded too good to pass up.

What Do My Candles from Gramma Frans Fixins Look Like?

The cinnamon roll grubby candle was absolutely adorable and very realistic.  It’s the exact size of a real cinnamon roll with tons of melted frosting oozing over the sides with cinnamon and raisins sprinkled on top.  The candle came on a metal plate with cinnamon fixins around the base and completely encased in plastic and tied with homespun ribbon.  It was so real, you’re almost tempted to take a bite out of it.

My Coffee Cake candle was in a 16oz mason jar with a nice thick metal lid, not a canning lid that would normally come with it.  At the top of the candle where the wick is are 4 coffee beans embedded in the wax.  The whole look is very rustic and well done.

The tarts are absolutely humungous!!  I could not believe it when I opened the shipping box my candles came in to see these Fred Flintstone size tarts.  I weighed one and it was well over 2 ounces. I had to break the tarts in pieces just to fit them in my tart warmers so you definitely get your money’s worth if you buy this size.

How Did My Candles from Gramma Frans Smell?

Grubby Cinnamon Roll:

This candle was so adorable, I almost didn’t want to burn it.  I decided to light it in my master bathroom and waited to see how long before I began to notice the fragrance.  It took awhile and I think because it was a grubby candle and not a jar.  Pillars tend to take a bit longer before the scent becomes noticeable... at least in my experience anyway.  The scent itself smelled more like sweet cinnamon to me.  I couldn’t really detect that doughy bakery note as with other cinnamon bun scents but I still liked it a lot.  

I wanted to mention that once my candle reached a nice melt pool and I looked down on the candle to smell it more, I saw the continuous swirl of cinnamon and dough just like a real cinnamon roll.  The detail applied to this candle was pretty cool!

I’ve had this candle burning all day and I’m happy to report that the scent gets stronger and stronger the longer it burns.  I started off burning this candle in my bathroom and ended up moving it into my bedroom.  Now, my entire bedroom and bathroom are filled with the wonderful aroma of cinnamon.

This was a nice treat from burning jar candles and it’s the neatest candle to watch burning.  If you find yourself shopping on this site, I would give this one a try just for the novelty of it.

Coffee Cake:

When I picked Coffee Cake to review, the owner of Gramma Frans Fixins (Sheila) told me that her Coffee Cake is a special blend that most people either like or don’t.  That statement right there sparked my curiosity and of course I had to try it.  Here is the scent description from Gramma Frans website:

“Our own blend of warm coffee cake right from the oven! Vanilla cake blended with coffee, and hints of cinnamon, sugar, and our secret.. shhh.  This is sure to be your new favorite!”

Sheila sent me a jumbo tart as well as a jar and I decided to burn my jar first.  When I first opened the lid to smell this candle, it didn’t smell like the coffee cake fragrances I’ve tried in the past.  I kept smelling it to see why it seemed so different and I couldn’t figure it out.  I could smell the coffee but it was the cake part that had me stumped.  This is definitely a unique coffee cake scent and unlike any I’ve ever tried.

After a half a day of burning, this candle seemed very light to me.  I started out burning it in my bedroom where the scent was totally lost.  So, I moved it into a smaller room and decided to try my jumbo melt to see if that faired any better.  I recently bought two new tart burners to put in my great-room... now I can burn more of my delectable melts in the room I spend the most time in.  Duh, it took me awhile... but I just love burning candles and have done so exclusively there for so long, old habits die hard. 

I cut this huge melt in half and put one in each burner and I’m happy to say, the tarts are definitely stronger and the candle is fairing much better in a smaller room.  This isn’t a scent that saturates a room because although I can smell it, it’s not super strong.  And I’m still having a hard time pinpointing what this fragrance smells like.  I can smell the coffee for sure and my husband even commented on it saying he thought it smelled like chocolate.  I thought that was interesting because I didn’t smell chocolate at all.

All in all, I thought this smelled pretty good and definitely not your average coffee scent.  You’ll be getting one of a kind if you order this one.
