Northern Maine Candle Company is another new online store recently introduced to me.  I was sent 3 candles of my choice and boy oh boy did these candles pack a pretty powerful punch.  I’m constantly amazed at all the new companies I’m being introduced to and how awesome the candles are.  It makes me realize that the larger candle companies out there are getting a run for their money big time as these smaller companies are exceeding and surpassing them in every way.  (I’m not naming names but you know who I’m referring to).northern maine candles, northern maine candle, maine candles, maine candle, candle maine, candles maine, scented candles from maine, candle company maine, maine candle company

Northern Maine Candle Co. doesn’t have a big scent selection to choose from, I counted 22 fragrances total. Normally, I would consider that a negative since most of us do want a large scent selection to choose from but in this case, I’m making an exception.  This is a fairly new company and I know Michelle, the owner of Northern Maine Candle Co plans on trying to add a couple of fragrances to her menu a month so the scent selection will be rising with time.  All her candles are 100% soy for all you soy lovers out there and I can’t wait to start reading all the reviews you’ll be posting on our board once you try these candles.

I also want to point out that the only size candle this company carries is a 17oz apothecary jar.  Speaking for myself, the 17oz size isn’t a deterrent at all because that happens to be my favorite size.  Tart melts are also available at reasonable prices and they come in adorable 6 packs.  This would be an excellent way to sample all their fragrances till you find a favorite and I have no doubt… you’ll find one.

What Do My 17 oz Candles from Northern Maine Candle Co. Look Like?
northern maine candles, northern maine candle, maine candles, maine candle, candle maine, candles maine, scented candles from maine, candle company maine, maine candle companyMy candles are round apothecary jars with black metal rustic lids.  Labels are tied on the lid with twine and also a rustic style label on the front of the candles.  My candles were also double wicked. Northern Star wax is a mustard color.  Fresh Cut Maine Pine is green & Dutch Apple Pie is red.  A unique feature to this line of candles are two little soy beans embedded on top of the wax in each candle.  I first thought they were Pine nuts and asked Michelle about it and she told me as a trade mark, she puts two soy nuts in all her candles since her wax is 100% soy.  I thought that was very clever and a nice touch.

How Did My Candles from Northern Maine Candle Co. Smell?

Northern Star:

When I first opened this candle to take my first whiff, I noticed orange and clove the most.  Those two really dominate this fragrance to me.

The scent description for Northern Star is:

“A warm inviting blend of oranges, apples, clove buds, and smooth vanilla notes. A wonderful holiday or country type northern maine candles, northern maine candle, maine candles, maine candle, candle maine, candles maine, scented candles from maine, candle company maine, maine candle companyscent.”

For Gold Canyon Candle fans out there… this scent totally reminded me of Mandarin Orange Spice and if you’ve been wanting to try a soy brand, you have got to try this fragrance from Northern Maine Candle Co.  It’s so spicy and reminds me of Asian or oriental spices for some reason and I thought had an ‘incense” quality to it.  That’s just my opinion though. Northern Star is a very different scent and I think it would be a great winter fragrance for those of you who like the smell of spicy oranges and strong clove.  I couldn’t make out any vanilla or apples but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there, I just couldn’t smell it.

Here is what Michelle; owner of Northern Maine Candle Co. had to say about Northern Star:

“This scent reminds me of my grandfather when he takes an orange and sticks of whole cloves all over the whole orange and uses it for a car freshener.  Of course he could only use it for a week or so because the orange would go bad.  When I first received this scent there was something about it that was familiar. I finally realized what it was when I was burning it.  To me the cloves and orange stand out more then the apple and vanilla, however I still can smell a hint of the two.”

In conclusion, I thought this was a very unique fragrance and one I don’t have too much experience with.  I’m not really a clove fan so I probably wouldn’t purchase it again simply because there are too many other Northern Maine candles I want to try.
