Lately, I've really been in the mood to burn luxury candles. I’m so curious about luxury brands and want to try as many as I can, or can afford I should say. That’s the key factor here… affordability. These suckers are expensive and I go “ouch” every time I check out at Scents & Sprays which is where I purchase the majority of luxury brands.

When shopping on Scents & Sprays website, I counted 11 different fragrances from Voluspa. That’s not very many fragrances but I know from experience that luxury brands tend to stick to a select amount of scents because they center more on presentation, packaging, and quality of their ingredients going into their candles. That alone tends to hike up their prices tremendously.

Voluspa’s scent selection ranges from fruity, floral and a few earthy type scents. If you love floral fragrances, they have a floral line called Floraison Candles and here is the description from Scent’s & Sprays website for this line:

“Inspired by flowers in full bloom, floraison is French for "flowering or to bloom, the prime of life". Lovingly recreated scents evocative of nature's most dramatic fragrant flowers in bloom.”

I know there are many floral lovers out there so if you’re looking to expand into the “luxury” realm… this may be a great place to start since this company seems to be in the mid price range.

Price can be an issue when it comes to luxury candles, at least it is with me so I tend to find brands in the twenty dollar range. Anything over 30 is really pushing the limit with me and I just can’t do it yet... maybe someday, but not quite yet. Voluspa candles seem to be priced right in the middle which makes it easier purchasing them. Searching through the scent selection available, it was pretty easy picking out several that suited my taste... Italian Tangelo was the first one and my first official purchase of this brand.

What Does My Italian Tangelo Candle from Voluspa Look Like?

My candle is a 10oz glass jar topped with a black metal lid. The box the candle came in was quite something. It had a pattern of tan & black diamonds intertwining each other creating a psychedelic pattern...it's hard to describe. (See picture to the left.)

How Did My Italian Tangelo Candle from Voluspa Smell?

Italian Tangelo is THE candle I’ve tried to date that comes close to smelling like a real orange (not quite but close). It’s a really beautiful fragrance! Most orange scents I’ve tried either smell like candy or orange juice and there’s nothing wrong with that as I do enjoy both… but it’s nice to finally try a candle that smells closer to a real orange. I’m still on the prowl for one so if any of you reading this know of a good authentic orange… please email me.

I lit this puppy in my bedroom and not long after, the fragrance was definitely noticeable. It has a nice bold citrus bite to it that I absolutely loved. The scent description on Scents & Sprays website is:

“Experience the citrus blends of Sweet Italian Tangelo, Bitter Orange Peel, Tangerine, Yuzu, and Red Grapefruit.”

Everything in this candle was pleasing to me and had all the aspects I love in a citrus fragrance. It was so refreshing walking into my bedroom and being enveloped in the wonderful aroma of fresh oranges and grapefruits… that’s what it reminded me of the most. Grapefruit definitely stood out along with Yuzu. Everything in this scent screams citrus and smelled very realistic. Citrus lovers, you would definitely like this one.

How Did My Italian Tangelo Candle Burn?

The only negative to this candle was how it burned and the culprit had to be the wick. My candle never burned correctly from beginning to end. Once I lit it, the flame never really materialized and kept burning very low which never allowed the wax to melt all the way to the edges. It constantly tunneled and I never once had to trim the wick. My only salvation was scooping out the wax and putting it in my tart burner so nothing was wasted. Once I scooped out wax, the flame came back and it burned okay for awhile till the flame died down again. It was one big circle to the end. That’s pretty disappointing considering the price I paid for this candle.

Overall Opinion of My Italian Tangelo Candle from Voluspa:

I did like this fragrance and already have another candle from Voluspa I plan on burning to review in the future. I’m hoping I bought a candle with a fluke-dud wick and it won’t happen again. When I get candles with dud wicks, I still usually keep the candle and deal with it since that’s just the type of person I am. I scoop out the wax and use it in my tart burner… it’s a few extra steps but hey, it works and it’s better than throwing it away!

Scents & Sprays has been my one stop shopping website for luxury brands lately and I do find their prices to be pretty comparable to other luxury brand sites.  They carry the majority and offer free shipping when you spend $100 or more and that’s a good deal.  Every little bit helps.

In closing, I’m not quite sold on this line of candles yet to say whether I fully recommend them or not so it’s really up to you whether you want to give them a try or not. If you do, please post your findings on our review board. I’d love to read what you think of this brand.

Happy candle shopping.

~ Christina
