Gaila's thoughts on their candles:

"A Review in a Nutshell"

Today, I was as excited as a child at Christmas to recieve a fragrant box filled with candles from Wenzel Wax Works of Lake Zurich, Illinois. I opened it to find a variety of tea lights and votives as well as a votive holder. I could immediately see that some one had taken great care in crafting these beautiful candles.

I read the insert to discover the candles are made by Jeff Wenzel, who obviously takes great pride in his art. (You can visit his web site to learn more www.wenzelwzaxworks.com) The shape and size of the solid color votives are similar to Yankee. The tea lights come in clear holders that allow the light to shine like a sparkling jewel. All the candles are very neatly done with a smooth finish and regular shape. They have a very professional look right down to the custom printed tags.

I quickly surveyed the fragrances provided and choose a bright red tea light with the fragrance Red Mac Apple for my first burn. I started the candle at 6:15 p.m. tonight and then I started dinner. The fragrance was incredibly crisp. This candle had one of the most genuine, true to the fruit fragrances I've ever experienced. It smelled just as if I was slicing a fresh red apple to accompany the ham I was reheating.

I left the candle burning as I played with the boys for the rest of the evening. Now I'm finally back for some alone time at my computer (my husband fell asleep too) As I've been writing, the candle has burned out. It is 10:40 now, which means the candle burned for about four and a half hours. Quite respectable for a tea light. That is a perfect size candle to light for an evening.

I am amazed at the fact that I didn't smell any smoke as the candle self extinguished. I love the smell of candles but I hate the smell of a smoldering wick. I typically dip the wick in the pool of wax with a little wire doohickey to avoid this scent. That way I go to bed with the light fragrance from a candle and not the smell of smoke. How delightful that this candle disappeared without smoke.

Right now I've got to clean the house up a bit and go to bed. But tomorrow, I'm excited to be trying another new scent - Sweet Woodberry. Over time I hope to post a fragrance review for each of the scents I've received in the section that follows.
