| Gaila's Thoughts on Her Raspberry Scented Candle from White Barn Candle Co.
"I was very excited to receive this candle at the office Christmas party last year. In my opinion Bath and Body Works makes the most luxurious creams and lotions (and so much else too). Im a known fragrance fanatic, and I think their fragrances are incredible. My son and I call it the "smelly store" because we go there and smell every tester, and from coconut lime verbena to the sweet pea flower. Everything smells delicious. My first Bath and Body favorite was raspberry, and it is still high on my favorites list. This was the fragrance of the candle I received.
This candle was very attractive. Not the typical pillar shaped jar candle, but a rounded jar filled with a deep mauve color wax. A thin ribbon was tied around the neck. I remember popping the lid off, smelling the raspberries and thinking, "this is going to be a great candle."
Having received this candle at the office, I decided to burn it at the office. I thought I might as well share it with the friend who gave it to me. So I fired it up to start the New Year. The scent was a pleasing, medium bodied fragrance, which was true to the fruit. The aroma easily filled my office, but did not spill out into the hallways and the central workroom.
While the fragrance of this candle was pleasing, the quality of the burn was weak. The candle did what I call tunneling. Which means the entire layer did not liquefy (even when the candle was burned for most of the day). Then a vertical tunnel forms leaving a thick layer of wax unburned on the walls of the jar. I expect pillar candles to tunnel, that prevents dripping, but when I choose a jar candle I expect most of the candle to burn. I know that many candles do not burn completely and I will tolerate some wax being left behind on the wall. With this candle I felt cheated. Nearly a third of the wax remained when the candle was finished.
My advice, don't buy the larger sized jar votive from White Barn/Bath and Body. Instead, go for the smaller candles that will burn more completely. Because even though their fragrances are wonderful, the quality of the burn of the large candle is below average for an expensive candle.
Just to let everyone know, I'm doing this review a bit after the fact, I burned this candle in January to February of this year. I decided it merited review because I had clear memories and a strong opinion of it. Since the purpose of the review sections is to provide candid and honest reviews, I feel that this is a good forum to give warning on this candle (at least the jar version of it)."
