 Introduction to my review of Kat's Soy Kandles:
Kat's Soy Kandles is a candle maker from Bristolville, Ohio and has been making soy candles since 2006. It is a relatively new company but is absolutely professional with their products and service.
Kat's Soy Kandles offers a variety of soy products ranging from container candles and melts to wax dipped teddy bears, tealights and votives. Gift certificates or gift baskets are available and they can easily handle larger special event or occasion candle orders. They accept payment through Paypal, Google Checkout, and even (RME) Revolution Money Exchange, and will ship both domestically and internationally.
I found Kat's Soy Kandles website to be simply laid out and easy to navigate. The top banner is colorful and got me interested in seeing what kinds of products they offered. The product categories were easy to click through and the pages were clear and uncluttered.
If you are an Etsy shopper, like I am, you may already have found that Kat's Soy Kandles has a nice storefront there as well, with the same wide range of soy products offered on their regular website.
I hunted around, first thing, for a list of scent descriptions, but unfortunately, there wasn't one, nor were there many scent descriptions on the Etsy site. They plan to have scent descriptions listed in the future when building;their new website, and I look forward to seeing that as I feel it's an important part of an online store. It was, however, simple enough to email Kat with any scent questions I had, and I got a quick and courteous responses to all of my queries. |
What do my candles from Kat's Soy Kandles look like? 
The four ounce jar candles were charming. They were minis... about the width of two votives. The Blackberry Marmalade was a dark purple color and very appealing. The Apple Harvest candle was a brilliant red, and the Pecan Pie was a pretty burnt orange. The melts were all in coordinating colors, respectively. These candles and melts were vibrantly colored which made burning and melting them all that much more fun. Also, I have to add that the candles were poured perfectly. Each one was poured to the exact same level with the wicks set precisely in the center. They were a real treat to see... the prettiest belles at the ball.
The melts looked different than what was pictured on the website, but the package weighed in at 4.5 ounces so I was fine with the change. I did see the exact shape that I received listed on the Etsy site.
The melts came six to a pack and were starburst shaped... or... for all of us George Jetson fans, they were like Spacely Sprockets. I held them up and asked my husband if he would consider them Cogswell Cogs or Spacely Sprockets and... after a long quizzical look... he decided they were, indeed, Spacely Sprockets. I really delighted in the fun shape of these melts, and all of the products I received were beautifully colored. |
How did my candles and Melts from Kat's Soy Kandles smell?
Blackberry Marmalade
 I was pleased to learn that I had chosen one of their best sellers. Kat's Soy Kandles described this scent as:
"A luscious treat for the berry lover - fresh tart blackberries infused in marmalade jam, with a purely delicious aroma."
This scent had a deep rich berry note with a hint of spiciness too. It was more complex than a straight blackberry would have been and this scent was a big hit around here with my fruity loving family. I also got compliments on it from guests who stopped by to visit.
The melts gave a medium to strong throw and were instantly noticeable when I walked into the room and then seeming to fade a bit after I had been around the scent for a while. I really liked this fruity, spicy, dark berry scent. I can see why it is a best seller.
Apple Harvest:
I was looking specifically for an apple variety that wasn't a bakery scent. Here is the description for Apple Harvest.
"This is THE strongest apple scent we have ever found. Enjoy the rich aroma of crisp clean apples by the bushel full on a sunny day. This fragrance is both earthy and invigorating."
This was certainly a crisp, clean, authentic apple scent, and let me tell you... I loved this scent. I was so happy not to have any cinnamon in it. I was looking for a single note apple scent and I got it... Yipee!
It was like fresh picked apples and rather strong for an apple scent with a medium to strong throw. I had three melts going all throughout the house and it stayed front and center with every intake of breath. It smelled really fresh, just l ike a bushel of juicy red apples picked right from a tree. I am so impressed with this scent... it's a great true apple.
Pecan Pie:
Kat's Soy Kandles describes Pecan Pie this way:
"Pecan Pie has been a southern favorite for generations. This yummy fragrance has notes of sweet custard and toasted pecans - a truly decadent aroma to fulfill your dessert cravings."
I definitely smelled the sweet custard but not much pecan and no crust. Even though crust is not listed in the scent description, I was looking for it anyway just because I expect it in a pie scent. Sometimes the pie crust is the best part, and I missed it here.
The custard smelled like a butterscotch or a brulee to me, but my nose didn't pick up any particular nuttiness, and for me, this scent missed the mark just a bit. It was pleasant enough but didn't smell the way I had expected and hoped for. My melts had a good throw, filling my kitchen and dining area nicely when I put a melt in two melters on opposite sides of the space. The scent lasted a good long time whether I used my tealight melter or my electric melter.

How did my candles from Kat's Soy Kandles burn?
All three of my four ounce candles burned with a small flame. I found that they left wax around the sides and did not melt to the edge of the jar. This was disappointing because the jars were small to begin with and they could have benefited from all of the scent pool they could get.
With each candle, I needed to occasionally pour off a bit of wax in order to keep the flame from drowning out. I poured the wax into a melter so as not to waste any of the scent. I definitely got a better scent throw from the melts than the 4 oz candles, as pretty as they were. The candles burned for a long time and did lightly scent my powder room.
The melts gave off a stronger scent than the candles and scented my larger rooms nicely.

Closing to my review...
I have enjoyed my candles and melts from Kat's Soy Kandles but wish they would have burned a bit better. Out of the scents I sampled, the Apple Harvest was my absolute favorite, with Blackberry Marmalade close behind. Even though the Pecan Pie was not for me, that's bound to happen occasionally. Not every person loves every scent, and I would feel comfortable trying the other scent selections here... besides, I do want more of that Apple Harvest.
If you are looking for soy products and want to shop somewhere with fast, dependable, and friendly customer service, this is a good place to start.
