Pros: 10% of all profit earned goes towards missions, double wicked, one candle burned cleanly and evenly
Cons: My other candle did not burn so cleanly but still burned fairly evenly

As I was browsing the internet in search of soy candles, I ran across a company called Wooden Cross Candles. I could tell right away that this site was a little different from the typical candle company.

Wooden Cross Candles had a message on their website: 10% of all profits earned go towards missions and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. For me, because I am a Christian, this was an exciting find. I enjoy making purchases when I know some of the money goes to a greater cause than profit. For that reason, and because WCC uses a soy/beeswax blend, I knew I wanted to give their candles a try.

When I ordered my candles, there was no scent description link on the site. I ordered anyway, but emailed the company to let them know that some of their scents sounded wonderful, but I would be more likely to purchase these scents if I had some idea of what was included in fragrances like Pure Essence, Sunday Morning Mist, and Waterfall Mist. I was quickly sent a reply, and it seems they had actually been working on a scent description list! A day or two later the list was posted and it should be helpful if you want to buy a WCC.

All WCC candles arrive in cloth bags! I was also sent three little cloth bags of wax chips to try in...none other than Pure Essence, Sunday Morning Frost, and Waterfall Mist:). The very fragrances I emailed the company about that I mentioned sounded wonderful but had no scent description at the time. A note was included that said they sent my candles out one day late, which is why the wax chips were included. But I would never have noticed my order was "a day late." Shipping was very fast. Oh well...freebies:). I haven't melted the chips in these fragrances, so someone else will have to try a different scent and post a review:).

When I ordered, I took a chance without a scent description list and ordered Tuscan Herb and Strawberry-Rhubarb. I've always liked the scent strawberry-rhubarb and like to try purchasing it from different companies.

I'm happy to say that I was pleased for the most part with WCC's strawberry-rhubarb scent. The candle had a decent scent throw and burned very cleanly and evenly. I did have to let both tuscan herb and strawberry-rhubarb burn for longer than four hours for the wax to reach the edges, but I didn't notice the wicks smoking so I didn't mind. The candles are double wicked so that helps.

Tuscan herb was more of a chance for me. After I had already ordered and was waiting on my shipment, I read the scent description and it didn't sound like a scent I would have bought had the description been available when I ordered. Unfortunately, my instincts were right and I didn't like the scent tuscan herb. It smelled very much like the scent description, however, and now that there is a scent description list I hope there won't be much of a problem with all of you ordering from WCC:).

For some reason, the tuscan herb candle didn't burn as evenly. It took two burns, several hours beyond four hours of burning, for a chunk of wax to melt off the sides. When it finally melted, a bit of wax was left on the glass. My strawberry-rhubard candle burned perfectly, though...extremely clean and even, so I didn't really mind.

I would recommend this company. The fragrances on their website are separated by Everyday and then Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter. There are very "safe" fruit/baked good/floral scents to choose from.

Just to let you know, WCC only offers their candles in one size: 10 oz. I don't find that to be a drawback, however. There are lots of soy candle sites to buy our tarts, tealights, votives, and larger jar candles. Because these candles have a good scent throw, burn evenly for the most part, and some of the profit goes to a greater good, I have no problem only purchasing 10 oz. candles from this company.

I hope you give WCC a try. I'm glad I made a purchase that did something not only for myself, but for others as well:).
