Scent Throw
|
|
I have bought from this company many times. The ease of picking them up in MANY different stores is probably the reason why. I like the tiny 5 ounce candles in triple scent for holiday gift giving. They are cute with the little bail handle when I want a little token gift. The scent throw is weak compared to the many other companies, here on CF- but at least there's no "shipping costs".
I wanted to comment on the NEW "Wood Wick" candles....what a disappointment!!! I was so looking forward to them, since I do not have a fireplace and love candle burning. The sound is so soft you can barely hear it. Now I know the sound should only be as loud as a candle could be, but I wanted more pop. It was just like static on a radio. To me, the sound is annoying....not at all what I expected. It does not "crackle" like a fire-it "buzzes"- and as the wax pools, the sound gets even quieter. I tried the Currant which was way to sweet for my taste. Oh well.
On a positive note, I do enjoy their tarts- particularly the Vanilla Cinnamon, Evergreen Apple, Hot Cinnamon Rolls, Sugar Cookies, Hot Apple Pie and Vanilla Cream. They also have some great summery scents but I usually don't buy fruity or floral.

I tried lots of their tarts they well in AC Moore.
Oatmeal Cookie smelled pretty good for a short time, then the smell faded away.
Blue martina was different- again, it was pretty strong at first, then faded away.
For the price I paid, they were okay, as long as you don't expect any more than an hour of two or scent from each. I used the entire tart which came in two pieces- so to use only half would of been even weaker.

I’ve always loved to burn candles in my home. So I’m always looking for cleaner and more true to life smelling candles. After reading the reviews about the new Old Virginia’s Wood Wick candle, I had to try it. After checking around I found them at The Cottage, which is located here in our hometown. I bought my first Wood Wick candle with great expectations. As soon as I returned home, I lit my Vanilla Bean Wood Wick candle and I loved the crackling sound the wood wick makes. I have been burning it for over a week now and the sound does seem to get louder as the candle burns down. Mine is now burned to about half jar. It pools all the way to the side of the jar, with very clean burning. As with all candles, I do trim the wick each time I use it. The medium throw of the scent is perfect. Not overwhelming like some of them are. This one just fills the air with that wonderful vanilla aroma.
The crackling sound that it makes is like a warm fireplace, but on a much smaller version. It’s not going to be as loud as a fireplace. It’s a small wood wick that is crackling, not a large stick of wood in the fireplace. However it’s a very calming and soothing sound that is very enjoyable.
This one is a must try candle and it’s one I will buy again and again. We all love it here in our home. I love soy candles for the healthier, cleaner burn.

pricey, had problems with smaller Wood Wick candle

Wow, what can I say: the Wood Wick candles are awesome! I recieved one of the large caramel candles for my birthday last month and have been enjoying it ever since. Now caramel isn't a scent I'd probably pick for myself, but this one smells great and kind of maple-y to me. The crackling wood wick is pretty cool and the scent throw on this one is amazing! Makes my whole apartment smell great. I can often smell this candle when I get home even though it hasn't burned since the day before! I was so impressed with it, I just had to go get another candle in a different scent. I went to a Hallmark store and purchased the smaller version in the pomander scent which kind of reminds me of a spiced tea. While the throw wasn't quite as strong as the caramel one, it was definitely good and more my kind of scent. The problem came after burning the candle a little more than half-way down. The wick appeared to be too short, which resulted in the flame being drowned, which resulted in tunneling. Now this candle is useless while it should have several more hours of burning time left. For the price I paid, I am not happy about this. The instructions on the bottom of the lid recommend trimming the wood wick, but I did not do that at all with either candle. The larger caramel candle has burned beautifully. I am more than half way through that one and it's burned evenly. I'd hate to think about how fast the smaller one would have resulted in this problem had I trimmed the wick. I don't know if it was just a problem with this particular candle or a problem with the smaller sizes in general. Otherwise, I can't recommend Wood Wick highly enough and will continue to buy them, but I will only buy the large one from now on.

Woodwicks do live up to the hype

I can't tell with the other candles they make, but Old Virginia hit the jackpot with their woodwicks. I honestly thought it might be a lot of hype, but after smelling their wonderful scents (nice complex scents and not artificial or overly sweet aromas) I decided to give it a try. I purchased the large Fireside because the name just tickled me and the scent was a nice spice...a little on the masculine side but not so much that I was reminded of men's perfume. It just lacks a sweetness, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I was a little excited when I got it home and lit it as soon as I settled in for the evening.
What a wonder to have in a non-fireplace abode. The wick lights up higher than cotton wicks, so the light it casts is fairly bright. The sound is very light...a fast, steady, and soft sputtering with a few tiny pops now and then. My favorite part is how the light dances on the walls. Because the flame is so high and sputters, it casts light and shadows on the floor and walls just like a real fireplace would. Fantastic!
I just bought a bottle of wine, a new Jazz CD, and now this candle will make the moment complete. At around 25 dollars with tax, it does cost a bit more than some, but I think it's worth it and would not only recommend to others but will definitely be buying again. And the cost isn't as bad as it seems once you break it down. The large candle is supposed to last around 180 hours. Burning three hours a day everyday...that gives you about two months use. I already have a wishlist of scents brewing: applewood, chai spice, lemon sage...
