Pros: Scents were very authentic and moderately strong
Cons: both my candles tunneled

Nature’s Finest-The Beeswax Collection

Nature’s Finest, I discovered from their website, has three candle lines: soy, beeswax, and palm wax. I found their beeswax line at my local grocery store and decided to give them a try. There were several different sizes available ranging from, if my memory serves me correctly, 3oz, 9oz, and 16oz, although I could be wrong. I just remember there were very small jars, medium jars, and then large jars. Most of the jars were available only in solid colors and in one scent, although it seemed the line also had a few multi-layered/multi-scented candles. While the “multis” looked more interesting, none of the scents impressed me enough to buy them. There were some votives on display, for those of you who like to burn votives.

I did find two very interesting and yummy fragrances: Eastern Fig and Cranberry Grapefruit. The two candles I purchased are probably 9oz. As it doesn’t say on the jar or on the bottom label, I don’t know for sure. I had never burned beeswax before and was excited to get my candles home and give them a try.

Eastern Fig is a hard scent to describe because I’ve never burned anything “fig” before. I think my candle may smell a bit like ginger. Eastern Fig is a medium scent strength that carried well in my bathroom/laundry room and out of my bathroom a bit when the door was open. I would give you a scent description but the Nature’s Finest website doesn’t list scents or descriptions:(. Cranberry Grapefrut was very tart. I’m not sure I picked out the cranberry, but the grapefruit fragrance was very authentic and smelled so fruity and edible! I burned it in my bedroom, and it did so-so as far as throw. It really got a chance to shine in my smaller bathroom. I had to save my Cranberry Grapefruit candle from my husband who blew it out prematurely on its second burn; before it had a chance to burn to the edges. Argh! That is such a pet peeve of mine, and I’ve trained him better than that;). Once in my bathroom, the scent strength was a bit stronger than Eastern Fig and carried very well in my bathroom and out into the hallway. Having to use the restroom became a fruity experience;)!

Sad to say, due to their burn, I will never purchase beeswax candles from this company again. There was no black smoke to speak of, but the tunneling was absolutely awful! I wonder if it was because the jars were more of a round shape rather than a straight up and down jar. I was able to burn Eastern Fig twice without it being blown out before it was supposed to be. On its first burn, when 4 hours had passed, the wax still hadn’t reached the edges. The wick was still very short and there was no carbon build-up, so I let it continue to burn for 2 more hours. Even after that long, it still hadn’t reached the edges. I know that sometimes on the first burn a candle can’t quite reach the edge and catches up on the second burn, and that is what I hoped for.

On the second lighting I trimmed the wick, and it again burned for 6 hours. By the end of that burn, I could tell it was going to tunnel. I blew out my candle, poured out the melted wax, and used my lighter to make the wax perfectly flat. I threw away so much unused wax, but I thought this might be a new start for my Eastern Fig candle. I must admit, I did a beautiful job of making the surface perfectly smooth and cool before I lit the candle again. Alas, the same horrible tunneling started up again.

I performed a similar operation on my Cranberry Grapefruit candle, except that it had more of an excuse to tunnel since it had been blown out early. Again, I cut out a great deal of unused wax. I suppose I could have tossed the wax on an electric tart warmer, but it’s too late now:(. Neither my Eastern Fig or Cranberry Grapefruit candle redeemed themselves. I’m really disappointed, too, because the fragrances smell wonderful and have a good throw. I’ll let them burn in my bathrooms until there is no wick left, but after that I’m not putting anymore work into them in order to use the wax.

I’ve never seen Nature’s Finest soy or palm wax lines. There is a phone number on their website where you can call to find a dealer near you. The scents I tried were great, but who wants to purchase a candle that can only melt a small portion of wax? If you find the soy or palm wax candles, perhaps they will fare better than my beeswax candles did.

Pros: In grocery stores, adequate scent selection, burns beautifully!
Cons: Scents were "off" to me...

Found these at a Winn-Dixie in Jacksonville, FL. I stood there forever, sniffing & resniffing, trying to narrow it down and make a decision already! Not because they were all so good, it was because my husband said "Pick ya' out one!" and I couldn't find a scent that really blew me away... The fruits I'm not crazy about and "Family Gathering", at least on cold sniff, just plain out stunk! So I went with a caramel-colored Eastern Fig (in beeswax), like the above poster. However, my experience was quite different from hers, my candle has burned beautifully, melts all the way across the top, it actually looks like water on top of the wax - very cool! No tunneling whatsoever, minimum wick maintenance, but here's my boggle - I can barely smell anything! I thought that very same thing when I smelled it at the store, but I knew that sometimes, the scent (once it's lit) is much stronger and that was what I was banking on. Didn't really happen for me. If I could only find a scent that appeals to me, I would love these candles! I'm just leary in that if I don't like the scent when it's unlit, I probably won't like it much better when I've spent money on it to burn...

Pros: Strong scent throw, inexpensive
Cons: Not enough selection!

Just bought 'Family Gathering/Beeswax Collection' scented candle from the Food Lion grocery store on the way home from work today-----it smells awesome!

I normally melt my candles on warmers, but decided to burn this one. The cold scent was peculiar, I admit (smells like sugar cookies with a strange underlying scent), but curiosity got the best of me--and at 8 bucks for a 16 ounce candle I went for broke;))

It has a very strong scent throw--and turns out the 'mystery scent' (to me, anyway) is maple!! I've been burning it for about 4 hours now, and my whole house smells like---a pancake!! There are actually 3 layers: This first layer is a cream color, the second layer is a caramel color, and the third layer is a deep burgandy color. It hasn't burned down to the second layer yet, so I may just go ahead and let it melt in one of my warmers (curiosity 'always' gets the best of me:)).

I would definitely recommend giving these candles a try--you really can't beat the price (no shipping involved!). However, selection will be limited depending on where you purchase them from (I noticed even the website did not have a huge amount to choose from)---but they did run the gamut from bakery scents to fresh/floral to outdoorsy scents.

As far as the way the candle burns--after a few hours of burning there is still about 1/4 inch that is unmelted around the edge of the container. For die-hard burners, I know this is important--not so important to the melters:0))
