I was first introduced to White Flower Lei candles by internet friends who had picked them up at a convention. They all raved about the candles and so I got the courage to purchase two for myself. I purchased Reikii (her most popular scent) and Ndia. The candles came a couple weeks later and were both beautifully packaged in asian inspired red boxes...the soaps were even more beautifully packaged, but I digress. For a couple extra dollars, I also purchased a little silver candle coaster which the jars fit in perfectly. The simple design, thick glass, and minimal asian print lends a touch of elegance.
Even cold, each candle had a heavenly smell. Reikii and Ndia both have a common element of spice, with the Reikii possessing an additional touch of orange/bergamot aroma. The scents remind me of those New Age shops that spring up now and then...full of crystals, incense, and wind chimes. I lit the Reikii and immediately it started to pool. The website says these candles are made from organic soy. And while I can't attest to the organic part, the wax does have a very low melting point...something I and my friends have taken advantage of by using the candles as both a cuticle lotion and solid perfume. The Reikii burns very evenly even though I usually break every candle burning rule (burn for 15 min. at a time, don't trim my wicks like I should, etc...). It has a strong throw but it's not overpowering. Within 30 min. it had filled my entire bedroom with its soft spice, but even after 3 hours of constant buring, it never became overpowering or sharp. Now the Ndia is another story. I've burned it now for 5 hours and can still barely smell it. I had a candle-iscious tealight burning in the hallway and its scent was more prominent in my bedroom than the Ndia which was burning on my nightstand. But without having tried a couple more, I'll reserve my judgment on the company as a whole. Will definitely be picking up another Reikii...as well as trying Rose Geranium and Temple Flower. I'll try and post again once I have a chance to sample more.
***Update***
Have since burned the Ndia completely down and have to say that it did get a little better. At first I thought it was weak b/c I was coming in from rooms with strong fragrances like Yankee's Lemon/Lavender, but now I realize that it is more that the scent is subtle. Having bought some of Pacifica's candles, I realize that what I mistook for faintness was actually the more mellow scents of essential oils. Still prefer the Reikii though.
